The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported today that the index of world food prices dipped for the ninth consecutive month in December of last year, declining by 1.9 percent from the previous month.

Khaled Khiari, the Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, briefed the Security Council yesterday afternoon on the Middle East and warned that the situation at Jerusalem’s Holy Sites is deeply fragile, and any incident or tension can spill over and cause violence throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory, in Israel and elsewhere in the region.
