Asked about the announcement of Taliban suspending women from university education in Afghanistan, UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that it is “clearly another broken promise from the Taliban,” and “another very troubling move."
Speaking to reporters today (20 Dec) in New York, Dujarric reiterated “it's difficult to imagine how the country can develop, can deal with all of its the challenges that it has, without the active participation of women and the education of women.”
According to reports, the Taliban has ordered a ban on university education for the country’s women. A letter was issued by the ministry of higher education, the order will go into effect immediately.
