“Lebanese Armed Forces Commander and I are visiting the International Forces in the south to express our deep sorrow and solidarity with the UNIFIL forces in the south, we expressed to the UNIFIL Force Commander our commitment to support these forces and to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. What happened is a very unfortunate incident, and this incident is a matter of condolence not only for the international forces and the Irish Forces, but also for us, because the blood [of the Irish soldier] is merged with the blood of the International Forces and the Lebanese Forces in order to preserve peace and stability in Southern Lebanon.
I talked to the UNIFIL FC about the general situation, and I confirm that the environment in the South is a kind environment who feels that UNIFIL are here to preserve peace and stability in the area. Let me say that this environment is trying to deal with these forces as family and this is what the FC was keen to say, that he knows the suffering of the people of the south and we [UNIFIL] are trying to help as much as we can. We confirmed the full cooperation between UNFIIL and Lebanese Army in all its tasks, and I say honestly this is a very important issue, where the UNIFIL and LAF Commanders both affirmed the full cooperation in this regard.”
