The 9th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) concluded its works today (23 Nov) in Fez, Morocco.
Speaking to journalists, Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco said, “The Fez meeting was also a successful meeting in terms of its results. The Fez Declaration constituted an important development in the work of the Alliance of Civilizations. The Fez Document, approved unanimously by all participants, sets goals and priorities for the coming period. It recalls the foundations on which the alliance was built and defines the next stages of action.”
Also speaking at the press conference, Miguel Angel Moratinos, High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, referred to the Fez Declaration and said, “It’s the roadmap for the international community, including the Alliance of Civilizations, to be inspired by the Moroccan model which has yielded concrete results in terms of urgent needs for mutual respect, for brotherhood, peace, for understanding.”
He added, “In a very complex geopolitical context, we spoke here in Fez of peace, understanding, mutual respect, and commitment to live together. This is something that people need. They welcome it. They are hungry for peace. And I think that’s what we need to remember.”
The Fez Forum also included students from all over the world who gathered at Euromed University.
In an interview, Antonio Vitorino, Director General of the International Organization of Migration, commented on the conclusion of the Forum, said “Declarations are always important – politically. The 9th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the first to take place in Africa, gathered 44 ministers, 90 regional organizations, 12 former heads of States or Governments, and hundreds of Youth from different continents.
