4. SOUNBITE (English) Benoit Varenne, Oral Health Programme Officer, Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) Department, World Health Organization (WHO):
“In addition, we see that over the last 30 years, we have 1 billion more people affected by oral disease. It's a clear signal that most people do not have access to preventive and treatment, oral health care services. So the need to reform overall care is urgent. And we know that we have a number of essential oral health care intervention that could be implemented.”
5. SOUNBITE (English) Benoit Varenne, Oral Health Programme Officer, Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) Department, World Health Organization (WHO):
“Efforts should be also focused on development of innovative workforce and part of this reform, we know that we need more dental nurses and dental therapists and hygienists. But in addition, we need those so more general healthcare workers to be trained in oral health to respond to the people’s need and and requests at the primary health care level. This will improve access and affordability of non-invasive oral health care intervention at primary health care level.”
