The UN Working Group of Experts on People Of African Descent called on all Member States to develop a racial justice index, reflecting the lived realities of people of African descent across the world.
Briefing journalists on Tuesday (01 Nov), the Chairperson of the group, Catherine S. Namakula, said the goal is “to measure the performance of States in this regard.”
Namakula also said the Group is “particularly concerned about the treatment of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers of African descent” and called “upon States to guarantee their access to safety, involvement and justice.”
The Chairperson said the experts commend the steps taken “at the international, national and regional level to ensure the advancement of the discourse on racial justice”, but also “decry the situation of children of African descent that have not been treated as children at all.”
