STORYLINE:
Addressing the General Assembly on Saturday (24 Sep), Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, said, “we must prioritize diplomatic solutions, dialogue, and de-escalation to settle tensions, prevent conflicts from emerging and combat extremist ideologies.”

Demanding an end to Iran's occupation of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa islands, she stressed that Iran has not responded to her country’s calls to resolve this conflict peacefully.

“We will never relent in voicing our to claim these islands either through direct negotiations or through the International Court of Justice (ICJ),” she affirmed.

She said that maintaining international peace and security requires a world free of weapons of mass destruction, “particularly in the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula.”

On climate change, she urged States to adopt the renewable energy agenda, provide adequate funding for climate action, and support the capacity of developing countries to build resilient communities ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Egypt this year and in her country in 2023.
