The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, called upon the United Nations to become more actively involved in the fight against terrorism in the country and the Great Lakes region.
Addressing the General Assembly today (20 Sep), the Head of State highlighted the recommendations of the Global Coalition Against Islamic State and the Aqaba process as areas where the UN should “become actively involved”.
Tshilombo said that “despite tireless efforts internal efforts and massive military and diplomatic presence from the UN in Congo for 23 years, this security problem continues to affect” his country, particularly the East.
