Escalating violence continues to displace more families in Idlib governorate, in northwest Syria. Many of them are seeking refuge in informal settlements close to the border with Turkey where children are helping their families build shelters to protect themselves from the winter cold.

“My sister was sleeping in her room when the missiles struck. She was injured and died.”

“We were playing ball in school and all of a sudden shell started hitting around the school. We started to hide. All the kids in the school started to cry and were scared.”
Out of 400,000 people who have been displaced in northwest Syria in recent months, nearly 150,000 are uprooted children who have dropped out of school and are coping with extremely harsh living conditions in addition to loss and trauma.
