STORYLINE:

Syrian refugees started arriving in Bardarash Camp in Duhok Governorate, northern Iraq, on Tuesday (15 Oct) as UN agencies reported deaths on both sides of the border between Northeast Syria and Turkey.

Over 1,000 Syrian refugees have arrived in the Kurdish Region of Iraq.

278 individuals were bused to the Bardarash Camp late this afternoon from the border area. Another 570 are on the road, in transit or at the Domiz Camp Reception Centre.

Bardarash Camp which once housed internally displaced people was phased out last year, but because of its good infrastructure has been reopened to take in these new refugees.

The camp is being managed by UNHCR’s partner in the region, BRHA, the Board of Relief and Humanitarian Relief. It has a capacity of 5000 tents. IOM arranged for the transport to camp. The refugees said they were from Terbasiye, Hassakah and Qamishly
