STORYLINE:

The Internal Security Forces (ISF) and Central African Armed Forces (FACA) deployed to the Birao sub-prefecture in the Central African Republic (CAR) on 25 September.

As part of its mandate to restore the authority of the state, MINUSCA participated in their deployment and allowed the return of the representative of the state in the northeastern region of the CAR, where there are several armed movements.

Léonard Mbélé, State representative in Birao said, "today, I come to Birao with some police officers. It is excellent news. It responds to the demand of the people of the Vakaga.”

The primary mission of the National Armed Forces in Birao is to restore the authority of the state.

Mbélé added, "these law enforcement officers come to secure, to protect my population, our population, the people of the Central African Republic.”

In Birao, the population welcomed the long-awaited Internal Security Forces and Central African Armed Forces for years.

Ibrahim, a breeder in Birao said, “we are happy with the arrival of the FACA and the FSI that the government has deployed in our city. We are really pleased.”

The Central African Armed Forces rely on the support of the population to support the return to peace in Birao.

Captain Francis Gautto, Commander of the Central African Armed Forces in Birao said, “people here want peace. They want the disorder to be stoped and to look to the future. We will try to be at their side. They will give us the help they can. Together, we will reach peace.”

Active armed movements in this region have all signed the peace agreement of February 2019 and are committed to disarming.

Captain Francis Gautto emphasized, "you know that the President of the Republic has opted for dialogue. We follow the instructions he has given us. We are here to secure the city of Birao and repel those who could make the mess so that people can resume their occupations.”

Fighting between armed groups in Birao left several dead and tens of thousands displaced in early September. The arrival of the Forces of the order with the support of the MINUSCA should make it possible to avoid the resumption of these fratricidal fights.
