STORYLINE:

The president of the European Union Council Donald Tusk said that the use of words suggesting “an imminent conflict” between patriotism and globalism is” false and dangerous.”

Addressing the General Assembly today (26 Sep), Tusk said “the patriotism of the 21st century must also have a global dimension.”

The top EU official reiterated, “the history of our nations shows how it is to transform the love of one’s homeland into hatred towards one’s neighbor; how it is to transform the pride of one’s own culture into a contempt for the culture of strangers; how easy it is to use the slogans of one’s sovereignty against the sovereignty of other’s."

Stating that the world is facing an environmental emergency, Tusk said, “the European Union will continue doing everything to confront the threat.”
