A UN spokesperson said there was “significant progress” towards an agreement to implement phase one of the redeployments of the Hudaydah agreement.

UN spokesperson Farhan Haq told reporters in New York today (19 Mar) that UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths’ discussions with parties to the conflict were “constructive.” Quoting Griffiths, Haq said there was “significant progress towards an agreement to implement phase one of the redeployments of the Hudaydah agreement.”

He said operational details would be presented to the parties in the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) for endorsement shortly.

The Special Envoy welcomed the progress made by the parties and looked forward to the “swift endorsement of the plan by the RCC.”

Haq welcomed the progress as a step in the right direction adding that the UN hoped this would “pave the way towards the pursuit of a comprehensive political solution in Yemen.”
