Taking part in an ILO’s celebration event of the International Women’s Day, Yalitza Aparicio, the actor who stars in the Oscar-winning film Roma said if you are women facing obstacles, you have to “keep insisting because at some point you will achieve it!”

Yalizta Aparicio was a keynote speaker at the today’s (8 Mar) event in Geneva, which included Guy Ryder, Director-General of the ILO who said “we have to make the world of work change.”

Ryder also said “a lot of what happens in society in general, it really has its origins in, or ends up in, what happens in workplaces.” which is, according to Ryder “the epicentre of the whole struggle.”

Other participants in the event included Tanya Cohen, Chief Executive of Business Unity South Africa, Mette Schak Dahlmann, representative from the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions, Nazhat Shameem Khan, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Fiji to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva.

The International Women’s Day is celebrated every March 8 since 1910 with a focus on promoting women’s rights.
