Secretary General António Guterres today (1 Feb) discussed the situation in Venezuela with Bolivian President Evo Morales as he continues to encourage an inclusive political dialogue as a way out of the crisis.

His spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric said the Secretary General “has been working on the phones, being in touch with a number of leaders internationally” and reiterated that “his good offices are always are available, but they need to be, as in any situation, accepted by all parties.”

Dujarric said Guterres “is not interested in night flights to Caracas just to grab a headline for something that may not work out” but is “following this extremely closely.”

Morales met Guterres on the sidelines of a General Assembly High-Level event to lunch the International Year of Indigenous Languages.
