4. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Jorge Arreaza, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Venezuela:
“Today, Secretary of State Pompeo began quoting articles from this constitution, sacred to Venezuelans, and based on the constitution, they are trying to justify staging a coup d’état in Venezuela. I could not be more absurd. This constitution is clear. Venezuela is free, independent; Venezuela and its sovereignty are sacred, it belongs to the people and no foreign power can make decisions in Venezuela nor manipulate internal affairs in Venezuela.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Jorge Arreaza, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Venezuela:
“Venezuela is under an economic blockade similar to the one experienced by Cuba during almost 60 years. Venezuela is at the moment experiencing the challenge that the international financial system is scared, and distances itself from Venezuela. It doesn’t want to work with Venezuela for fear of so-called sanctions, those coercive measures imposed by the United States against, in this case, international banking. It is very difficult for the Government of Venezuela today to obtain crucial supplies necessary for life, for healthcare, for feeding our people.”

8. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Jorge Arreaza, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Venezuela:
“The goal is to strangle the Venezuelan economy and, with the king of spectacle they have mounted over the last few days, to generate cause change in Venezuela. But is pertinent for them to know that this will not take place.”
