Description
LEAST DEVELOPED COUNTRIES AND THE EUROPEAN UNION
More than half of the 630 million people living in the LDCs - Least Developed Countries - survive on less than one dollar a day. Despite worldwide commitment to fight poverty, the number of countries that are desperately poor is on the rise. During the past 30 years, the number of LDCs has doubled - from 25 to 49. In this edition of World Chronicle, John Richardson, Head of the European Commission Delegation to the United Nations, talks about the recently-held UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries, which was hosted by the European Union in Brussels.
