STORYLINE:

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres arrived Monday (7 May) in Havana, Cuba where he met with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

He also laid a wreath the Memorial of José Martí and toured the streets of Old Havana.

Guterres said “this tribute has for me a very special meaning. We would like to have a world where the values of freedom would be universal and available to the full population.”

Today (8 May) the Secretary-General addressed the 37th session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and later met the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raúl Castro.
