Maurice Strong, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development discusses the importance of this international meeting which will be held in Brazil in June 1992. The Conference is expected to highlight the environmental crisis which threatens the collapse of the planet. Mr. Strong expects the Conference to adopt two major documents: The Earth Charter and a Plan of Action (Agenda 21), to implement the results of the Conference in the next century. In addition, he says, the Conference is designed to focus on the political, environmental and technological issues which separate the North and South.
