STORYLINE:

The Portuguese troops were congratulated on 7 February by MINUSMA's leadership for the decisive military actions they have carried out in the Central African Republic (CAR)since they were deployed there last August.

SOUNDBITE (English) Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA):
“I’m personally relieved that as much as you have been, sent to some of the most difficult places on this land, y you’ve done it with courage, professionalism and effectiveness.”

In just a few months, these peacekeepers have managed to bring peace to Bocaranga and Bang in the Northwest of the country, as well as to Bangassou in the Southeast, and Bambari in the Center, which is now a city without weapons.

The priorities of Minusca as defined in its new mandate are the protection of civilians and the reduction of the presence of armed groups.
