The 15 members of the United Nations Security Council today (5 Aug) held a second straw poll towards the selection of the next Secretary-General of the United Nations.
After the vote, Security Council President for the month of August, Ramlan Bin Ibrahim of Malaysia, told reporters that “all the eleven candidates will be informed of the results through their respective permanent representatives of nominating states.”
The straw poll process aims to narrow down the candidacies through “encourage” or “discourage votes.
Eleven candidates remain in the race; Helen Clark from New Zealand, Danilo Turk from Slovenia, Christiana Figueres from Costa Rica, Igor Lukšić from Montenegro, Irina Bokova from Bulgaria, António Guterres from Portugal, Susana Malcorra from Argentina, Vuk Jeremic from Serbia, Natalia Gherman from Moldova, Srgjan Kerim from Macedonia and Miroslav Lajčák from the Slovak Republic.
