In a statement issued today, the Secretary-General said that he was deeply saddened to learn of the death of my predecessor, Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

The Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, arrived in Damascus yesterday and had a meeting today with the Syrian Foreign Minister, Walid al-Mouallem. They discussed the need for unhindered humanitarian access to all besieged areas, regardless of which party is besieging them.

Responding to a question on the use of cluster bombs in Syria and Yemen, the Spokesman said that the Secretary-General has consistently expressed his deep concern about the effect of the intensification of Coalition airstrikes, ground fighting and shelling in Yemen, despite repeated calls for a renewed cessation of hostilities.
