The roundtable aims to promote ratification and implementation of international regional instruments on the prevention and elimination of violence against children, including those developed by the Council of Europe
Participants: Marta Santos Pais, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Violence against Children; Anthony Lake, Executive Director of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF); Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe; Elie Mekhael, Secretary General of the Higher Council for Childhood, Lebanon (League of Arab States); Afyia Fathmath, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Health and Family, Republic of Maldives (Southeast Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children); Benyam Dawit Mezmur, Vice President of the African Committee on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. The roundtable is organized by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children and builds upon the process of follow-up to the United Nations Study on Violence against Children in which regional organizations and institutions play a pivotal role. Significant regional studies and analytical reviews promoted by regional organizations, including the League of Arab States, MERCOSUR Permanent Commission and the South Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children will be launched during the event
