UN Day 2010: Secretary General's Message
19 October 2010
UN Day is devoted to highlighting the aims and achievements of the United Nations. This year's UN Day focuses on the eight UN Millennium Development Goals and follows on the High-level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on 20-22 September 2010, which adopted a global action plan to achieve the eight goals by their 2015 target date.
"UN Day is a day on which we resolve to do more. More to protect those caught up in armed conflict, to fight climate change and avert nuclear catastrophe; more to expand opportunities for women and girls, and to combat injustice and impunity; more to meet the Millennium Development Goals." (Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Message on UN Day, 24 October 2010)
