United Nations, New York, 15 September 2010 - The General Assembly has begun its annual session by outlining its biggest priorities over the next year, identifying the pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), reform of the United Nations and the promotion of environmentally sustainable development as key areas of focus.
Joseph Deiss, the new President of the Assembly, called on the 192 UN Member States to put global concerns above partisan national interests when tackling the thorniest international issues.
