UNifeed enables news providers to cover important global issues by offering timely broadcast-quality video from throughout the UN system.
Material is currently available in two formats: on-demand streaming Flash and broadcast-quality MPEG-2 PAL and NTSC for broadcast use. All material is also accompanied by shot lists and story synopses.
Stories come from the global network of UN specialized agencies, funds and programmes, Peacekeeping Operations and UN headquarters. New stories are posted on the UNifeed website as soon as they become available on a daily basis (excluding Sundays).
UNifeed was created by the UN's Department of Public Information and UNICEF in response to the growing global demand for timely video material with an international focus. It is also supported by UNHCR, UNDP, the World Bank and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
At the opening of the 2010 High-level Segment of the Economic and Social Council, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says that "until women and girls are liberated from poverty and injustice" all UN development goals "stand in jeopardy." Academy Award-winning actress and women's rights advocate Geena Davis adds that "it is critical to engage all sides" in order to end violence against women and promote their economic empowerment.
