“With regard to us he acknowledged that we established our commission to investigate, our independent commission on the 25th and one might say that there might be an insinuation of criticism because of the delay of the formation of the process on our behalf. Nevertheless, there is no substantive report submitted by us so that he can pass a judgment and make a determination. So the determination that he made if we want to interpret it, it is an interpretation of a criticism, although not very explicit, of the Israeli side, because it is the side that tried very hard in tens of pages over many months to convince the international community that it is conducting and independent investigation, it is not independent and it is not credible and it is not following international standards.”

STORYLINE:

Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour spoke to reporters outside the Security Council today about the Palestinian position in relation to the Secretary-General 's follow-up on the Goldstone report. 
He told reporters that he agreed with the Secretary-General and his reaffirmation of the need of conducting an independent and credible investigation regarding the allegations contained in the Goldstone report.

He also said that Israel’s investigation was “not independent and it is not credible and it is not following international standards.” 
In his report, Ban stressed that he hoped Israel and the Palestinians conduct the inquiries they were asked to carry out by the fact finding team appropriately. 
The report found that both Israeli forces and Palestinian militants were guilty of serious human rights violations and breaches of humanitarian law during the Gaza conflict, which began in late December 2008.
