“For us it is a big project but not only to this school but to the entire area.  The parents are coming in and out visiting and saying thank you for getting our children seats.  It is so difficult to get enough seats for 1,300 just seats in one time.  We are all happy. And we say is thank you, it is not a small project it is a big project.”

“I am coming to school so that I will learn to get civilized and developed because I have hobbies and dreams and I dream to be a doctor."

STORYLINE:

It’s a joyous celebration for the children of Hai Elrahama. They are receiving basic school supplies made possible through funding by the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) through the “quick impact projects”.

SOUNDBITE (English) Farid Zarif, Chief of Staff, UNMIS 
“And I am pleased that in this particular case we have made it as quick as it could be.”

The Hai Elrhama is a village located within thirty two kilometers north of Khartoum, and the camp itself is home to some two hundred thousand internally displaced people.

This school holds around one thousand three hundred students between the ages of six and fourteen received 320 benches with worktables, 15 chairs for the teachers and two cupboards for supplies.  For the children who were bringing their own chairs to class it’s something to celebrate.

But for the headmistress, who has been living in the camp since 2000, and has taught at the school for six years the contribution can only have a positive impact for their future.

Mahila is a student at the school.

The shortage of such basic needs can be a source of disagreement and continued conflict.  By supporting the basic needs such as providing basic education facilities aims at building peace through reintegration of IDPs to the civil society.
