Bahrain today (19 September) accepted 145 of 176 recommendations made in the Human Rights Council’s review last May of the Bahraini human rights situation where they faced sharp criticism of its handling of civil unrest and the alleged suppression of free expression. CH UNTV
The majority of the 67 country-delegations who addressed the meeting on Bahrain in Geneva today expressed concern at continuing human rights abuses in Bahrain, citing failure to investigate and prosecute abuses, lack of accountability for acts of torture, excessive use of force by security authorities and the lack of freedom of expression. A UN report released today details serious human rights violations, including killings, disappearances and arbitrary detention committed in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo by Congolese and security forces before and after presidential elections at the end of last year. CH UNTV
