STORYLINE
Haiti’s President Michel Martelly said today (22 July) that a range of new measures need to be “put in place now” at the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC) to accelerate the reconstruction of priority projects, adding that “this has to be done with transparency, but in most efficient way.”

Martelly spoke at the seventh meeting of the IHRC. The Commission is co-chaired by the Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive and former United States President Bill Clinton.

While assessing the new projects presented for re-localization of internally displaced people (IDPs) and reconstruction of the city center, President Martelly of Haiti asked for more efficiency.

The President had recently appointed six new representatives from the government of Haiti to the board of the IHRC and is expected to request for an extension of the Commission’s mandate for another year. The commission was set to expire in October.
