STORYLINE
Fleeing violence in Myanmar, an elderly Rohingya couple travelled for eight days before finding shelter across the border in Bangladesh.

As Rohingya refugees continue to flee from Myanmar’s northern Rakhine state, Kutupalong refugee camp in neighboring Bangladesh has received more than 30,000 new arrivals in the past two weeks.

An estimated total of 313,000 Rohingya, a stateless Muslim minority in Myanmar who have faced discrimination and extreme poverty for decades, have fled to Bangladesh in the past two weeks.

Kutupalong and another refugee camp where UNHCR is working are filled beyond capacity and refugees – the vast majority of them women and children – are forced to seek shelter in makeshift tents along the nearby roads.
