Following the violation by parties to the Gaza conflict of a humanitarian ceasefire that was set to take affect earlier this morning, the United Nations top political affairs official said the announcement of the ceasefire had been made on assurances received “directly” from the parties. He said ”I don’t think we had a choice but to try to get those assurances and then try to use those assurances in order to stop the killing." UNIFEED – UNTV
