The United States began evacuating non-essential embassy staff and families fromSouth Sudan on Wednesday following a foiled coup in the capital. Fighting that began in Juba on Sunday has spread near the flashpoint town of Bor where hundreds are reported to have been killed. Meanwhile, the UN resident and humanitarian coordinator said that large numbers of people in need of medical attention after two days of violence constitute the most acute humanitarian challenge.
