JORDAN / SYRIAN REFUGEES

Since beginning of the conflict, Syrian refugees fearful of being attacked have been crossing into Jordan for refuge at night – now the exodus goes on day and night, and according to the United Nations Refugee agency (UNHCR), over the past seven days a record number of Syrians arrived in Jordan, all in all 20,000. STORYLINE:

A simple rocky path between Syria and Jordan a short crossing that changes lives.

Having left their home and country these Syrians are now refugees in Jordan.
A truck drives by a Jordanian Border tower, it stops, and more people take the path more refugees.

Over the past seven days a record number of Syrians have arrived 20,000 in all.

Usually the refugees fearful of being attacked cross into Jordan at night now the exodus goes on day and night.

Intisar Ghizlan and her children have just arrived from Daara.

SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Intisar Ghizlan, Syrian Refugee:
"We hope that it'll be better for us here. The most important thing is to be safe, we don't need more."

Jordan has a 370 kilometer long border with Syria and over forty such crossing.

Some arrive injured, like this man. He will be transferred to a nearby public hospital for treatment.

Others appear worn out by their ordeal.

Still others will never forget what they have lived through.

Many of the arrivals scramble to get into a Jordan army truck, they will be driven to a nearby shelter and eventually join the thousands already living Jordan's Za'atri refugee camp.

Others refugees, including Intisar and her children walk to the shelter leaving behind a country that has been at war for almost two years painting an iconic scene of flight that will be seen over and again in the months to come.
