STORYLINE

Twenty women and children, who were separated from their communities when they were abducted at the height of clashes in Jonglei, have returned to Pibor County in Jonglei State to be re-united with their families.

The fourteen children and six women travelled on a United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) helicopter and were reunited with their families and communities in Gumruk, Likongole and Piborpayam in Pibor County,in Jonglei.

Accompanying the women and children on the flight, Hazel De Wet, the head UNMISS's Child Protection office said that the process was important adding that the women and children had experienced horrific circumstances.

Hazel De Wet also said that the re-unification process was an example of how peace and stability across the region could be achieved.

Jonglei State Minister for Social Welfare, Child and Gender, Racheal Anok Obar urged citizens to stop with the kidnapping of children and women and work for peace and stability.

The abducted women and children had been living at an interim Care Center in the Jonglei State capital of Bor. The Care Centre is run by the Jonglei State Ministry of Social Welfare, Child and Gender. The ministry in collaboration with various stakeholders had been involved in tracing those abducted with their various families.
