"What is happening in my country in terms of terrorist acts that aim at destabilizing the State, the society and the people is no less dangerous than all terrorist acts that targeted many members states of the United nations both developed and developing. There is actually no sanctioned or unsanctioned terrorism. There is only one terrorism that must be combated, the terrorism that is targeting Syria is the same terrorism that targeted and continues targeting other member states of this world organization."

STORYLINE:

Addressing delegates attending the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy organized by the General Assembly Syria's Ambassador said today (28 June) that "terrorist groups acts" occurring in his country "had the fingerprints of Al-Qaida".

Ambassador Bashar Jafari said that the methodology of killing, dismembering and mutilating of bodies as well as the homicide of entire families while committing simultaneous suicidal bombings bore the signature of the terrorist group.

Referring to two attacks that took place today in Damascus, Jafari said that terrorist operations of that nature "could not be implemented without adequate financing and support". He added that it was "regrettable that some Arab and regional states as well as others do provide these facilities to armed terrorist groups."

He said the terrorist acts were aimed at destabilizing Syria's state, and society, and were no less dangerous than those terrorist acts that targeted other Members States of the United Nations.
