TIMOR- LESTE / ELECTION PREPS

On the verge of the second round vote for president scheduled for 16 April, teams of officers in Dili dedicate at least four hours per day to approaching families, schools and people they meet along the way. The exercise in conversation is aimed at helping prevent crime before it occurs. UNMIT

Step by Step. Timorese after Timorese. In the capital city of Dili, community policing is all about walking and talking.

A good conversation with the population is a key to guaranteeing security. Always with a greeting.

The National Police of Timor Leste, known as PNTL, leads the activity with the support of UNPOL, the United Nations Police. This Timorese officer highlights the importance of their work.

The first round vote for president was held in Timor Leste in March 17. Timor has a population of just over a million people, with more than six hundred thousand registered voters. PNTL resumed responsibility for the conduct, command and control of all police operations in the country one year ago.
