STORYLINE:

For the Malian refugees living in Mbera camp in Mauritania life is not easy.

Zeinabou came with her family. They left everything behind, but she has been given a special role in her camp.

UNICEF and UNHCR are training Zeinabou, along with other refugees, to be health care helpers.

SOUNDBITE (French) Zeinabou, Refugee Health Care Helper:

Part of Zeinabou's duties is to go from tent to tent to encourage parents to have their children vaccinated.

She also talks about hygiene and ways to protect the children from life-threatening illnesses.

Her assistance and advice is appreciated.

At home, Zeinabou's husband helps out by taking on some of the family chores freeing up her time. Time she says she will need.

There is a lot of work to be done, Zeinabou explains after the vaccination campaign, she plans to take on malnutrition among the young children.

And there's more she wants to create play areas as well as schools.

She also has plans for the adults. Meeting centres and activities.

In this camp, Zeinabou is fast becoming a heroine.
