The outgoing UN special envoy for Sierra Leone Michael von der Schulenburg said today that the country’s political elites carry a “heavy responsibility” to not let the elections “derail Sierra Leones future.” He also expressed “great concern” over reports that the Government has recently imported assault weapons worth millions of dollars to equip the Operations Service Division (OSD), a recently enlarged paramilitary wing of its police.
