STORYLINE:

Two years on since a 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti and the nation is still struggling to rebuild homes and lives.

Leogane, 20 miles west of the capital Port-au-Prince was one of the worst hit areas. Tens of thousands were killed and over 90 percent of the buildings were heavily damaged by the quake.

Early last year, Korean peacekeepers began building this hospital.

SOUNDBITE (Korean) Captain Lee Woon Seop, Korean Battalion, United Nations Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH):
"We have four doctors and four nurses. We provide consultations for children and adults in several domains. Our radiography supply is the best one in Leogane. In our lab we do tests for all kind of diseases."

The hospital sees about 50 people a day at no cost to the patient. 
 
Saintamise Charles says she is 108 years old. She's here because of a stomach ailment.

The hospital has interpreters so that information is accurate when dispensing medication and when consulting with patients.

Medical staff from five others contingents deployed to other areas in Haiti came to Leogane in November to help with specialized areas of medicine.

Dr. Nazru believes that there should be more hospitals like this one.

Gina who came in with bronchitis, is the 20,000th patient in this hospital. The Korean military will continue to take care of the Haitians in Leogane until the end of their mandate.

The 12 January earthquake left over 200,000 dead and more than 300,000 injured.  
Hundreds of thousands remain homeless.
