UN / SCHWARZENEGGER

Attending a luncheon on sustainable energy today, former California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger told participants that going to push regional governments to move toward green energy, saying it can be done at a grass roots level. "We knew Washington was asleep at the wheel, you can be part of the action and part of the solution." UNTV

Now I want all of you to join me in ignoring the pessimists, the naysayers and the critics, because they will always complain and be negative, no matter what."

STORYLINE:

The Former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, today (20 September) addressed a group that included heads of state and government, business and civil society leaders as well as UN officials during a thematic luncheon on climate change. 
Speaking at the Private Sector Forum 2011, Schwarzenegger noted the difficulties in advancing clean energy legislation and said that "people always say something is impossible, it can't be done" and noted that in his own experience as an actor, bodybuilder and politician, he has always "ignored the naysayers."  
He explained his vision by saying "it's about giving people the ability to control their power instead of praying it's a good day for a faulty grid" and "about saying no to a system where one dictator can have a bad day and decide to cut off our main source of energy and send prices to the roof."

The former Governor, using California as an example, said that he will continue "pushing regional governments around the world to come off the sidelines and to realize their unbelievable power and influence."

He called on his listeners to help "prevent the disaster of inaction" and said that Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon "and other champions like him will continue to inspire the world" with their call for a clean energy revolution.

The Secretary-General has made a priority to transform the global economy and put the world on a cleaner, safer, more equitable path, pointing out that just three per cent of current global energy investment could finance access to modern energy for all.
