UNICEF is supporting child-friendly schools like El Riito in rural areas of Nicaragua where the school is committed to gender equality and personal hygiene and sanitation practices are being incorporated into the curriculum. UNICEF

"In poor communities like this one, education is very important. Education is a key factor in helping people get out of poverty, and the Child Friendly Schools we believe are creating a support to achieve this. Poverty also limit's people's views and this kind of school sets out to release all of the children's potential, to get them to believe in their abilities and to realize their dreams, their goals; and that is what education should achieve."

My name is David Zamora Munoz. I am ten years old. I live in Punta Arena

I live with my mother, my father, my two brothers, and that's me here.

I walk for an hour to get to school. My school, "El Riito" (Little River) is a friendly and healthy school.

This is my principal and his name is Yader Jose.

I wanna be a doctor or a teacher, whichever would be the easiest to accomplish.

I can't imagine life without school because we wouldn't learn anything.

Life without our school would be terrible.
