STORYLINE:

As a new democracy, Nepal is facing many opportunities and challenges. One of the most significant is that nearly half of all Nepalese children are chronically malnourished.

Nepalese children dramatized the issue at a high level meeting in Kathmandu, organized by UNICEF to emphasize the important role that nutrition plays in a child's - and therefore a country's - development.

International aid agencies joined Nepalese government authorities to discuss how best to counter child malnutrition.

UNICEF has promised to do all it can to help ensure that Nepal's children do not suffer from the long term effects of malnutrition.
