UN in ACTION, an award-winning television series, reports on the work of the UN and its Agencies around the world. These 3- to 5-minute features illustrate UN peacekeeping efforts as well as projects aimed at reducing poverty and human suffering, fighting disease, providing humanitarian assistance and stimulating economic growth. In a poor village in a rural region of Guatemala, many women have woven traditional textiles for generations, earning little revenue for their efforts. Now, with the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), these local weavers have found ways to sustain their community and preserve their Mayan traditions by teaming up with industrial designers to create top-selling textiles for export.

In Iraq’s southernmost city of Basra, a young woman battles to be reunited with her daughter in the aftermath of a violent marriage. A meeting with a women’s rights activist, Fatima, has given her hope to restart her life. Fatima runs a centre, supported by the UN Democracy Fund, UNDEF, which advocates for increased civil and legal rights for women in democratic Iraq.

Haitian migrants toil under the hot sun on sugar plantations in the Dominican Republic. But the majority of them are stateless; even those who are born here, have neither a Haitian nor Dominican passport. Climate Change Threatens Livelihood (3'56") -- Climate change continues to threaten food security in Bangladesh, one of the poorest countries in the world, where rising sea levels and seasonal storms worry farmers. Those living along the country’s southern coast fear for their crops and livelihoods. Now the Government of Bangladesh is working with IFAD, the International Fund for Agricultural Development to provide training to farmers with the aim of introducing new techniques to beat the crisis.

In response to the recent Cholera outbreak, the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization, WHO, with financing from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund, launched a series of initiatives to treat and prevent the spread of the disease. Located opposite MINUSTAH Headquarters, the place has been turned into a market selling perfectly handcrafted blue helmet soldiers. Children with disabilities represent a large proportion of all children living in institutional care. They are isolated from society because of their disabilities. The UN Human Rights office and UNICEF are advocating for integration of these children into communities.
