The first elements of the new United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) arrived in Cairo on 26 October 1973, the day after the adoption of the Security Council Resolution setting up the Force.
Lt. Gen. Ensio Siilasvuo visited Suez area today and paid a courtesy call on the Governor-General, M. Badawi El-Khouly. He attended a parade by the Finnish battalion and had lunch with them as they observed their National Day. Here, General Siilasvuo accompanied by Col. Reino Raitasaari, Commander of the Finnish Battalion, is seen inspecting the troops.
