Special Thematic Session of General Assembly on Water and Disasters
A day-long special thematic session of the General Assembly was held at UN Headquarters on the subject of water-related disasters. Speakers at the opening of the session included Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (second from left), as well as (from left): Prince Willem-Alexander, the Prince of Orange of the Netherlands and Chair of the Secretary-General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation; Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan, Honorary President of the Advisory Board; and Han Seung-soo, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea and Founding Chair of the Advisory Board’s High-Level Expert Panel on Water and Disasters.
