UN Troops in Goma after M23 Withdrawal
A peacekeeper with the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) stands atop strategic Mount Goma in the eastern part of the country. Armed rebels known as the M23 (“March 23 Movement”) occupied Goma, a city of 1 million people, for nearly two weeks before withdrawing 1 December.
