A.U. Conducts Security Sweeps after Shabaab Exit from Kismayo
An improvised explosive device (IED) is destroyed in a controlled detonation by a team of Kenyan engineers with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), after discovery of the device in a former police station in Kismayo, southern Somalia.
The extremist group Al Shabaab withdrew from Kismayo yesterday, 2 October, when AMISOM, the Somali National Army (SNA) and the pro-government Ras Kimboni Brigade entered and captured the city without a fight.
