UNiTE to End Violence Against Women Football Match
On 26 September, Michelle Bachelet, UN Women Executive Director, and a team of top UN officials and ambassadors played in a friendly football match in New York City against the President of Bolivia Evo Morales’ team in the context of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.
Both teams played for “UNiTE to End Violence against Women,” supporting the Secretary General’s campaign and advocating for the issue—globally and in Latin America and the Caribbean, which has some of the world’s highest rates of gender-based crimes. The match, co-organized by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations also highlighted Bolivia’s “Year to End all forms of Violence against Women and Girls.”
