Leaders at UN Event Unite behind Final Push to Eradicate Polio
World leaders, donors and experts today hailed a “once-in-a-generation” opportunity to eradicate polio, as they gathered at United Nations Headquarters in New York to celebrate efforts that have already reduced the incidence of the disease by 99 percent around the globe.
Hâmid Karzai (centre left), President of Afghanistan, and Bill Gates (foreground right), Co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the leading donors to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), were among the participants at the event.
